Dog Babesiosis (Piroplasmosis): Pet Hotel Risk Guide

Babesiosis is a serious tick-borne disease. Pet hotel stays increase tick exposure risk.

What is Babesiosis?

  • Caused by Babesia parasite (transmitted by ticks)
  • Destroys red blood cells
  • Can be fatal without treatment
  • Very common in Turkey (Rhipicephalus tick is main vector)

High-Risk Seasons

  • Spring (March-June): Highest risk
  • Autumn (September-November): Second peak
  • Less risk in July-August (hot, dry) and winter

Prevention (Non-Negotiable)

Spot-on or Oral Tick Prevention

  • Bravecto (oral): 12-week protection
  • NexGard: Monthly oral
  • Seresto collar: 8-month protection
  • Frontline: Monthly spot-on

Apply minimum 48 hours before hotel stay.

What Good Pet Hotels Do
