Flying domestically with your dog in Turkey is possible but requires preparation.

Turkish Airlines (THY) Pet Policy

In-Cabin (Small Dogs)

  • Maximum weight: 8kg (dog + carrier)
  • Carrier must fit under seat
  • Soft-sided carrier recommended
  • Fee: 150-300 TRY each way
  • Book in advance (limited cabin pet spaces)

Cargo Hold (Larger Dogs)

  • Temperature-controlled hold
  • Approved IATA carrier required
  • Minimum 4 hours before flight
  • Fee: Based on weight

Pegasus Airlines Policy

Similar rules but slightly different:

  • In-cabin maximum: 8kg (dog + carrier)
  • Must fit under seat
  • Health certificate required

At the Airport

  1. Arrive 30-45 minutes earlier than usual
  2. Check-in counter (not online check-in for pets)
  3. Pet document check (vaccination certificate)
  4. Security: Dog out of carrier (dog walks through scanner)
  5. Boarding: Last to board

Carrier Requirements

  • Waterproof bottom (accidents happen)
  • Ventilation on 3+ sides
  • Dog must be able to stand/turn around
  • No wheel casters (cabin pets)

Stress Reduction

  • Practice carrier time weeks before
  • Familiar blanket inside
