Dog Microchip: Is It Required at Pet Hotels?

Microchipping is increasingly required or strongly recommended at pet hotels.

What is a Microchip?

  • Tiny RFID chip (grain of rice size)
  • Implanted under skin (scruff of neck)
  • Contains unique 15-digit ISO code
  • Permanent, painless, no battery
  • Readable by universal scanner

As of 2022, microchipping is mandatory for all dogs in Turkey:

  • Required for registration
  • Required for travel permits
  • Required for most official procedures

Why Hotels Want It

  1. Identification: If dog escapes, can be traced back
  2. Liability: Proves ownership and responsibility
  3. Record keeping: Linked to vaccination records
  4. Emergency: Vet can identify dog if owner unreachable

What Hotels Typically Require

  • Most quality hotels: Strongly recommended
  • Premium hotels: Often mandatory
  • Budget hotels: Usually ask but not always enforce
